Block Printing Workshop at Fern's March 2
Traditionally block printing is the printing technique of pressing and stamping fabric with carved wooden blocks. A beautifully simple, slow process. This workshop will explore this method of textile printing with modern easy carve blocks using water-washable inks.
PROJECT: Students will carve linoleum to create their own stamps to make 2 block printed bandanas and are also welcome to bring three items of clothing for printing. Students will also have access to many other pre-carved images they can add to their projects.
DISCUSSION: The basics of block printing, learning how to transfer drawings to linoleum, carving techniques, mixing ink, and printing with and without a press. Also covering the different types of linoleum, and inks for relief printing and some basics for printing at home
INCLUDED: All materials and tools are provided, plus participants will get instructional PDFs on how to block print at home.
PREREQUISITE: None! This workshop is open to everyone that wants to learn more about block printing.
PLEASE BRING: Up to 3 pieces of clothing you’d like to print on, and wear clothing that is ok to get a little inky or an apron.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to very small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds on workshops. If for any reason you are unable to attend, you can send someone in your place. Any classes cancelled by us due to low registration or health mandates will have the option for a refund or transfer to future date.
